The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtaining five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
The Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the release of the results on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at a press conference in Minna, Niger State.
According to figures announced by the Council, a total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 actually sat for the papers. Of that number, 678,903 were male and 693,089 were female.
The results showed that 1,162,118 candidates, or 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits in any subject. This was a slight improvement from the 84.26 per cent recorded in 2025.
However, the percentage of candidates who obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics dropped from 60.26 per cent in 2025 to 58.67 per cent in 2026, a decline of 2.64 percentage points.
The Council also recorded a sharp reduction in examination malpractice. A total of 1,406 cases of malpractice were recorded in 2026, down from 3,878 in 2025, representing a 64.74 per cent decrease. NECO attributed the drop to tighter monitoring and collaboration with security agencies.
Also, 1,334 candidates with special needs participated in the examination.
State-level data showed that Kano State led with 74,413 candidates obtaining five credits including English Language and Mathematics. Lagos State followed with 72,496 candidates, while Oyo State came third with 55,543 candidates.
How to Check the 2026 NECO Result
Candidates can check their results through the official NECO portal:
- Visit results.neco.gov.ng
- Select 2026 as the examination year.
- Select SSCE Internal as the examination type.
- Enter your NECO result-checking token.
- Enter your registration number correctly.
- Click Check Result to view your result.
Candidates experiencing difficulty have been advised to confirm that they selected the correct year and examination type, use a stable internet connection, and avoid sharing their details on unverified websites.
The release of the results comes 63 days after the last paper was written. The 2026 NECO SSCE Internal examination ran from June 15 to July 23, 2026.
