CONTENT

Respect for Law

Respect for law means obeying rules made by the government to keep everyone safe. For example, when you drive a motorbike in Lagos, you must wear a helmet because the road safety law protects you. The law is a set of rules that everyone must follow. When you follow the law, you help keep the streets clean and reduce accidents. Respecting the law also shows that you value the safety of your neighbours and the country.

Loyalty

Loyalty means being faithful and supportive to your country and its people. A simple example is when a student in a school choir sings the national anthem with pride. Loyalty is a feeling that keeps you connected to your community. It also means standing up for your country when it faces problems, like helping to clean a local market after a flood. Loyalty helps build trust and unity among citizens.

Participation in Nation-Building

Participation in nation-building means doing activities that help the country grow and improve. For instance, a group of students in Ibadan might plant trees in a park to make the area greener. Participation can be small, like recycling plastic bottles, or larger, like volunteering at a local health clinic. By joining such activities, you help create a better future for everyone.

COMMON MISTAKES:

- Thinking that only adults can respect the law or that it is only for politicians.

- Believing that loyalty is only about speaking loudly about the country.

- Assuming that nation‑building means only building roads or big projects.

EVALUATION

1. What does it mean to respect the law and give an example from your town?

2. How would you describe loyalty to your country in one sentence?

3. Name one way you can help build your community and explain why it matters.
